Participating in a marine conservation program in Krabi, Thailand gives you 11 days of combining scuba diving instruction with marine conservation volunteer work. You will learn to dive while also helping to protect the coral reefs and marine life in the Krabi region.
This volunteer program begins with a PADI Open Water Scuba Certification course, which covers all of the basics of scuba diving. After completing the course, you will then have the opportunity to volunteer on marine conservation projects. These projects could include coral reef monitoring, fish identification, and debris removal.
Taking this trip is not only a great way to learn how to dive but also an opportunity to learn and grow and bring home new methods to help protect the environment. You will gain valuable skills and knowledge that you can use to make a difference in the world, while also getting plenty of time to bask on the stunning beaches, participate in activities including some of the best rock climbing on the awe-inspiring limestone cliffs, and exploring the jungles of southern Thailand. A typical itinerary for this trip includes the following:
Welcome and check-in
Orientation and a mindful movement rock climbing course. This course will increase your confidence while also including breathing techniques that will help you underwater.
Five dives between the pool and the waters of the Aonang Coast which will result in your PADI open water certification.
Take a kayaking trip through the mangroves, stopping at a large limestone cave to explore for a bit and have lunch before participating in a local mangrove restoration and awareness project. You will spend the afternoon learning about the different species that can grow in the tidal areas, how to plant them, and how to monitor their survival.
Day 7 is spent learning about seagrass and dugong conservation. Your guide is a marine biologist who will teach you about the importance of the seagrass ecosystem and the dugongs (similar to a manatee). After lunch, you are off to the seagrass nursery and conservation area to participate in ongoing projects.
Days 8 & 9 are spent diving after your coral reef workshops and reef first aid course. You get to actively participate in reef health surveys that support scientific research!
Day 10 you'll enjoy two fun dives and a celebratory dinner with your new friends before heading off to bed on the final night of your trip.
